Some of the tweets that struck me from #yesallwomen

"Helga’s a blonde, like her mother and sister, with her hair in pigtails and a thick black unibrow. Every day she wears a pink dress, which matches her huge pink bow which alights her dainty head. Her room is full of frills and pink hearts and a happy doll very similar to Raggedy Ann. Just from these simple descriptors, one would assume that Helga would be a sweet as pie, all American girl. That’s her sister, Olga. Helga, on the other hand, is a true tomboy. Occasionally violent but a born leader, Helga makes herself known amongst the 4th graders to be the one kid you do NOT want to mess with. However, as her mild-mannered half-Japanese best friend Phoebe knows and understands well, there is a lot of tenderness in Helga. While being tough, she’s rarely mean for the sake of being mean. She doesn’t steal, she doesn’t cheat and doesn’t lie about anything except Arnold. […]

Helga is a well-crafted individual and shows just how NOT to judge a book by its cover. Just because someone is a girl, wears pink, or wears dresses doesn’t mean anything one way or the other and this back story is significant to how we consider Helga within feminism. Helga does not love Arnold because that’s what girls do; she loves him because he showed her kindness. She loves him obsessively because he continues to show her kindness even if she tortures him. However, due to the fact that she does not want to become the butt of anyone’s jokes, she maintains this iron-clad reputation of the tough leader and keeps her love hidden from everyone; that one moment of swooning at 3 years old was seen as weakness. This is a girl who makes her own decisions, does things on her own terms and refuses to conform to anyone’s expectations”. x

I can’t be the only one who thinks that Catelyn Tully Stark started the entire bloody war. Let’s re-examine her actions, shall we?

-insisted that Ned accept the appointment to Hand of the King

-believed Lysa’s accusations that it was the Lannisters who killed her husband Jon Arryn, encouraging Ned to go to Kings Landing to investigate (because Ned is SO GOOD at being stealthy and anything other than straightforward and honest…)

-left her children and lands unprotected to travel all the bloody way to Kings Landing just to talk to Ned about the attempt on Bran’s life, never to return again

-believed Littlefinger in the matter of the ownership of the knife sent to kill Bran

-believed that Littlefinger would help Ned with his investigation, despite not having seen him since they were children or really knowing him any more

-based on Littlefinger’s accusation that Tyrion owned the knife, kidnapped Tyrion and took him to the Vale and put on trial for a murder attempt he knew nothing about, despite the way in which he helped Bran at Winterfell - in the face of Robb’s lack of welcome or even courtesy

-this leads to Jaime Lannister then attacking Ned in the streets in repayment for his brother’s kidnapping, which was done without Ned’s knowledge or approval

-Littlefinger’s betrayal of Ned leads to his arrest, which is what mobilises Robb into calling his bannermen and going to war against the Lannisters, leaving Bran and Rickon alone at Winterfell with only a maester and a castellan to watch over them

-is Robb’s worst counsellor ever - persuades him to make the alliance with the Freys in the first place, later suggests making a new alliance with them, leading to the Red Wedding

-constantly dissuades Robb from trusting Jon, even going against his decision - as King of the North - to name Jon his heir

-releases Jaime Lannister against her son’s command, which results in Jaime getting his hand cut off and Brienne nearly getting killed by Vargo Hoat, his men, and a bear - oh, and later trying to have Brienne killed by her own people…

Consider the alternatives:

-Catelyn asks Lysa for proof of the Lannisters’ treachery before making any rash decisions

-Ned possibly still feels obligated to accept the Handship (debatable)

-Catelyn does the sensible thing and doubles the guards around Bran’s chamber rather than leave him unprotected. When Tyrion comes by on his way south from the Wall, she questions him about the dagger and sees his honest confusion at how it came to be there. Maybe Tyrion makes the connect to Joffrey then and there, saving everyone a lot of heartache. He is never arrested, Jaime never attacks Ned, who is never beheaded. Ned arrests Cersei and Joffrey the way he should have.

Maybe it all still would have turned out terribly, but… come on. I dislike her character greatly. Her treatment of Jon Snow would have been enough, but her rash decisions were disastrous - and they continue to be, even now. :/

And NO, this is not misogyny. I have so much love for George Martin’s female characters - it would take an essay. Highlights on the love list: Brienne of Tarth, Arya, Danaerys, Ellaria Sand, the Sand Snakes, Margaery Tyrell, Mya Stone, Meara Reed… I just don’t like Catelyn and feel that her actions contributed GREATLY to the way things went in the war, particularly for the Starks.

You’re not the only one, but you’re still wrong.

You say is not misogyny but a lot of the things here are men’s actions and you’re blaming the woman. This is just so dumb that I’m getting angry for a character that I don’t even care.

do you ever get in one of those moods where you’re like feeling okay but you’re really sad at the same time and you just want to talk to someone and make them hug you but you feel annoying so you kind of just sit there being really sad
